Sentence Correction & Error Spotting
Last Updated On: Sun Sep 06 2026Fixing grammatical inconsistencies.
These questions test your command of grammar. In error spotting, you find the part of a sentence that contains a mistake, or decide that there is none. In sentence correction, part of a sentence is underlined and you choose the best replacement.
Common types of errors
- Subject-verb agreement: a singular subject needs a singular verb, even when words between them are plural.
- Tense: the verb tense must suit the time words and stay consistent.
- Pronouns:use the correct case, such as "my friend and I" as a subject.
- Prepositions: many words take fixed prepositions, such as angry with and prefer to.
- Nouns and articles: uncountable nouns like information and advice have no plural.
- Parallelism and modifiers: items in a list should have the same form, and a modifier must refer clearly to the right word.
How to solve questions
- Read the whole sentence and find the subject and the main verb.
- Check each part for the common errors listed above, one at a time.
- In error spotting, if every part is correct, choose "No error".
- In sentence correction, choose the option that fixes the error without changing the meaning.
- Pick "No improvement" only when the underlined part is already correct.
