Example 1: Trigonometric ratios
Last Updated On: Fri Aug 28 2026Question
In a right triangle, the side opposite angle θ is 3 cm and the side adjacent to it is 4 cm. Find sin θ, cos θ, and tan θ.
Solution
- Find the hypotenuse using Pythagoras theorem: √(3^2 + 4^2) = √25 = 5 cm.
- sin θ = opposite / hypotenuse = 3/5.
- cos θ = adjacent / hypotenuse = 4/5.
- tan θ = opposite / adjacent = 3/4.
