Example 4: Similar triangles
Last Updated On: Fri Aug 28 2026Question
Two triangles are similar, and their corresponding sides are in the ratio 3 : 5. If the area of the smaller triangle is 27 cm^2, find the area of the larger triangle.
Solution
- The areas of similar triangles are in the ratio of the squares of their corresponding sides.
- The ratio of areas = 3^2 : 5^2 = 9 : 25.
- Area of larger triangle = 27 x 25 / 9 = 75 cm^2.
