Table built from the caselet
| Group | Total | Own a car | No car |
|---|---|---|---|
| Men | 240 | 120 | 120 |
| Women | 160 | 40 | 120 |
| All | 400 | 160 | 240 |
Solution
- Men = 3 / 5 x 400 = 240 and women = 2 / 5 x 400 = 160.
- Men owning a car = 240 / 2 = 120; women owning a car = 160 / 4 = 40.
- Total car owners = 120 + 40 = 160.
- Percentage = 160 / 400 x 100 = 40%.
